(Chanhassen, MN) — This could be the last day (Thurs) of summer-like temperatures in Minnesota. National Weather Service Meteorologist Caleb Grunzke says, “I think 80s we’ll be done with for the rest of the year…until next spring.” Today’s forecast calls for high temps in the 80s across most of the state. Grunzke says we drop below normal early next week with highs in the 50s for Monday and probably a widespread freeze that night. He says temperatures could get back into the upper 60s and low 70s later in the week.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Front Line Foundation is granting a 20-thousand-dollar death benefit to the wife of Voyageurs National Park Ranger Kevin Grossheim. Fifty-five-year-old Grossheim of Kabetogama died Sunday when his rescue boat capsized. Front Line Foundation president Susan Holt said his dedication to public service and safety ultimately led to him saving the lives of three people. Grossheim served as a law enforcement park ranger at Voyageurs for 23 years and was also a volunteer firefighter.

(Mankato, MN) — The City of Mankato is welcoming a new director of the Department of Public Safety. Officials say Officer Jeremy Clifton was chosen following a national search that included a number of internal and external interview panels. Chief Clifton has 26 years of service with the Mankato Department of Public Safety and was most recently the assistant director of operations. Clifton is a Mankato native and a graduate of Minnesota State University’s law enforcement program. Former Public Safety Director Amy Vokal retired in August.

(Duluth, MN) — Authorities say they seized more than 17 hundred M-30 pills during a search late Wednesday afternoon in Duluth. Officers say they found 1,434 pills on a 29-year-old woman and 307 pills in her residence. She was booked in the St. Louis County jail pending first-degree sale of fentanyl charges.

(Detroit Lakes, MN) — The Minnesota State Patrol is naming the two people killed in a three-vehicle crash near Detroit Lakes Tuesday on Highway 59. Troopers say 33-year-old Cole Carlson of Detroit Lakes and his passenger, 60-year-old Stacey Nelson of Hawley, died in the crash. Two others involved suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and one was uninjured. The report says Carlson and Nelson were not wearing seatbelts.

(Moorhead, MN) — A Moorhead man is charged with burglary, assault, and fleeing police after allegedly threatening to set a mobile home on fire Tuesday. Authorities were called to a residential area for a car break-in and 36-year-old Jermey Person fled into Bennett Trailer Park, locking himself inside the bathroom of an abandoned mobile home. Officers used tear gas, PepperBalls, and a K-9 before Person finally came out and was caught by the police dog.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Six children ages 11-14 were arrested Tuesday following three armed robberies and two crashes on Interstate 94 in Minneapolis. Shots were fired at the second robbery, but no one was injured. The Crime Pattern Response Protocol was activated, allowing officers from multiple agencies to look for vehicles involved in the robberies. The suspects were arrested after causing two crashes with two stolen vehicles on I-94. Three boys, ages 11, 12, and 13, and three girls, ages 12 and 14, were arrested.

(Sandstone, MN) — The Wildcat Sanctuary in east central Minnesota is welcoming a 16-year-old tiger from in Argentina. Officials say Lucy arrived in Sandstone following a three-year push to get her out of a closed zoo in that country. The Wildcat Sanctuary was first contacted by animal advocates in Argentina in 2018 who were looking to place seven lions and all seven are now there. The same group reached out in 2021 about accommodating Lucy, the last big cat left living at the closed zoo.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus is part of the first Uni-run food delivery service by robots. Students, faculty, staff, and community members can order delivery almost anywhere on the U of M East Bank from Panda Express, Starbucks, and Erbert & Gerbert’s in Coffman Memorial Union. The autonomous robot gets the food, which can be tracked on an interactive map. Once it arrives, customers unlock the robot through the app to retrieve their food.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Wild and Columbus Blue Jackets face off in the season opener tonight (Thurs 7pm) at the Xcel Energy Center. Wild head coach John Hynes says they are excited to drop the puck and want to have a great season. Hynes replaced former Wild coach Dean Evason last November and Evason is making his head coaching debut with Columbus tonight at the X. Minnesota missed the N-H-L playoffs last season for the first time in five years.

(Brooklyn, NY) — The Minnesota Lynx begin the W-N-B-A Finals tonight (Thurs 7pm) with a road a game at the New York Liberty. This is the record seventh Finals appearance for Minnesota head coach Cheryl Reeve, who is going for the franchise’s fifth league championship. All-Star forward Napheesa Collier says Reeve is one of the greatest coaches in the “W” and feels really lucky to have been coached by her. The Lynx won three of the four regular season matchups with the Liberty. Game 1 of the best-of-five series tips off at 7 pm in Brooklyn.
