we're going to start today with new updates about friday's deadly shooting in arkansas. while providing a detailed account on sunday of the tragedy that left four dead and ten injured, arkansas state police revealed they found no apparent motive for the rampage. >> there appears to be no personal connection to the shooter or any of the victims. it was just a completely random, senseless act. >> the suspect could face the death penalty if convicted. nbc's pariah sadar has more on the tragedy and how it's affecting the tight-knit community. >> reporter: first responders in the small town of fordized, arkansas are washing away the bloody remnants of another deadly shooting in america, spraying down the parking lot outside a mad butcher grocery store, authorities identifying the alleged gunman as 44-year-old travis ugood evening posey who is facing at least three charges of capital murder, being held at a localjail after being wounded himself. >> this is really overwhelming.

>> reporter: angela ashley says her mother shirley taylor was one of the victims killed. >> reporter: what has the last 24 hours been like for you? >> total hell. she was our rock. >> reporter: also killed, 23-year-old callie weems, grocery shopping on her day off grocery shopping for her mother, leaving behind 10-month-old baby. >> wailing and screaming because my daughter is 23 years old. this isn't supposed to happen to her. >> reporter: nbc news also confirming the third victim killed as 50-year-old roy burton sturgess, according to his daughter. this graphic video appears to show a man with a long gun pointing and shooting at cars in the parking lot outside the grocery store friday, though police have not verified it is the suspect named in the case.

>> it was rough, man. i see people lying in the parking lot. didn't know if they were dead or not. >> reporter: this arkansas community now among the latest trying to find peace in the aftermath of senseless gun violence. >> our thanks for that report. now to columbus, ohio. ten people there were shot in the city's arch district early sunday morning. police say two teens were among victims. one of the victims is in critical condition, though all are expected to recover. police had to ask for the public's help in finding a suspect who got away in a white honda civic after a highway chase. a man claiming to be that driver turned himself and is charged with obstructing official business. this morning the judge overseeing donald trump's classified classified documents argued in the defense's motion to dismiss the indictment. it was argued that special counsel jack smith was illegally appointed because it was not first approved by congress. the prosecution says the justice department is well within its power to appoint special

counsels. later in the afternoon, the judge will hear jack smith's motion to issue a gag order against trump in the case. in its filings smith says trump poses an imminent threat to law enforcement citing a trump supporters erecent threat against an feebz agent. this week could reshape the race for the white house. president biden and former president trump clashing in their first presidential debate thursday night. it's the earlier presidential showdown in u.s. history on the calendar and the high-stakes remarch is set to offer a stark contrast between the two candidates on key issues. nbc's alice barr joins us from washington with the latest on this and the fight over reproductive rights will be one of the major issues there. >> reporter: sure will be, richard. today marks two years since the supreme court overtowed "roe v. wade." this is the first presidential election since the dobbs decision that took away federal protection for abortion rights, and it's sure to be a top issue

for many voters this year. the biden campaign expects to lean heavily into that issue. they think it's a galvanizing issue for democrats that could be critical in what's expected to be an extraordinarily tight election. the president is hunkered down at camp david this week for intensive debate prep. his aides signal that he won't be shying away from calling his rival, former president trump, a convicted felon and also from calling out what they see as his extreme record on everything from reproductive rights to what they say is promoting political violence. while mr. trump's campaign advisers say he is going to be focused on trying to pin president biden down on policy issues including the economy and immigration, and that the former president is really using the campaign trail this week as his debate prep. >> it's been report that had right now crooked joe has gone to a log cabin to study, prepare. no, he -- he's sleeping now
