The UIC Department of Intercollegiate Athletics invites applications for the Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Leadership & Development position to join our team of dedicated and highly skilled professionals.

The Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Leadership & Development will serve as a member of the SAAS management team responsible for overseeing all student-athlete development and leadership education, programming, events, and unit operations. The Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Leadership & Development will lead the Flames Leadership Institute, which includes vision creation, strategic planning, and delivery of career preparation, education, internships, job opportunities, NIL education, mentorship, and community engagement opportunities for UIC student-athletes. This position serves as the chief DEIB officer for student-athletes.

Duties and Responsibilities

•Lead and oversee the operations, planning, and execution of a comprehensive student-athlete development program (the Flames Leadership Institute).

•Create and grow critical campus and community partnerships in the areas of leadership, life skills training, and career services. Leverage existing campus resources and programs to progress student-athletes through the different stages of development.

•Serve as a liaison between the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics and other student support offices on campus.

•Management of student-athlete educational online modules and software (Game Plan), ensuring the design and implementation of key NCAA educational requirements for all student-athlete.

•Implement career development education for student-athletes and develop comprehensive internship and career programs.

•Oversee implementation of leadership development programming for student-athletes •Lead and manage the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) efforts.

•Host annual athlete symposium for selected participants •Analyze data collection methods and program success measurements utilizing existing systems such as Teamworks or Game Plan and creating systems where needed.

•Provide consistent and frequent communication, training, and resources, verbally and in writing, with administration, staff, and coaches regarding student-athlete development programs and services to create buy-in by constituents.

•Assist with student-athlete honors and awards nominations at the campus, conference, and national level.

•Identify and facilitate community service opportunities; strengthen the department’s engagement through change-making and by positively impacting the Chicago area community.

•Develop, lead, and execute a strategically focused community outreach plan designed to collaborate with community partners through staff time, donated items, and sponsorship support of events.

•Coordinate community service initiatives and events for student-athletes on behalf of the athletics department.

•Responsible for community engagement and life skills/character development, including team and individual community outreach and diversity, inclusion, equity, belonging, and social justice programming.

•Assist with developing and implementing summer bridge transition programming to welcome and educate incoming student-athletes.

•Develop and manage the student-athlete mentorship program and life after sport transitional sessions.

•Works with Deputy Athletic Director/Senior Women’s Administrator and Title IX representative to develop processes around and provide direction for all mandated student-athlete programming, including but not limited to sexual assault and violence prevention, drug and alcohol education, and diversity and inclusion programs.

•Engage in donor meetings, engagement opportunities, and presentations as needed. •Collaborate with centers on campus to enhance student-athlete awareness.

•Engage in departmental DEIB efforts to provide key insights on strategic initiatives impacting student-athlete development efforts.

•Identify opportunities for collaborative programming for student-athletes that addresses Student-Athlete Development and DEIB.

•Produce and submit required NCAA information and reports on academics, community service, career development, and documentation of personal development educational efforts.

•Hire, develop, and manage student staff to assist with programming and events.

•Manage and use software systems to track community engagement and NIL efforts.

•Participate in the NIL development of education and programming for both prospective and current student-athlete, coaches, staff and outside entities.

•Work with internal units within and outside of the Athletics Department (e.g., College of Business) to develop and facilitate NIL resources for student-athletes and staff. Create and deliver educational materials in collaboration with the Compliance staff to student-athletes, prospective student-athletes, coaches, and staff.

•Meet with current and prospective student-athletes to discuss NIL resources (including recruiting presentations for prospective student-athletes). Manage INFLCR rosters and provide education and onboarding for all student-athletes with NIL related software systems.

•Comply with all the NCAA, Conference, and UIC rules, regulations, and policies.

•Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

A master's degree in education, liberal arts, sport management, administration or business or a related field required.

A minimum of 3 years of work experience at an NCAA Division I institution or in areas of student-athlete development, sports administration, or social justice.

Experience and direct knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations are required.

Demonstrated ability to develop and conduct presentations to various audiences.

Exceptional interpersonal skills, demonstrated proficiencies in information technology and event planning experience.
