2025 is already proving to be transformative in more ways than one. If you're looking for a dopamine boost, to set an intention for the year, pay homage to a relic of the past, or add a little permanent perspective to your daily life, you might consider getting a new tattoo in the weeks and months to come. When dreaming up your ideal tattoo, though, you'll want to think about the long term: It's always less about of-the-moment designs and more about what speaks to you deep down. That being said, if you're set on getting inked but not sure what to get, one option is to let the year's top tattoo trends lead the way. To help you start your ink visualization, read on for 12 of the most popular tattoo ideas for 2025, according to artists.

Stylized Florals
“Florals are a beautiful and malleable addition to the body, and with the increased versatility of modern tattoo artists, a unique approach to this form will stand out,” says Brooklyn-based scenic and fine-line tattoo artist and Atelier Eva founder, Eva Karabudak.
New York City-based tattoo artist Ceren Karakuş Dündar, who specializes in floral designs, agrees: “Floral tattoos are timeless, incredibly aesthetic, and perfectly adaptable to the body’s anatomy, making them look stunning on any placement.”
Of course, there are so many flowers out there to choose from in inspiring your design. To streamline the process, Christy, a Toronto-based fine-line tattoo artist who goes by her alias, Wildflowers, suggests considering a birth month flower bouquet. “Birth month flower bouquets are a meaningful way to remember your family and loved ones,” she says. “Birth flowers are discreet in a way that it’s only for you to know the meaning behind each flower and who it is representing.”

Personal Handwriting
“Handwriting tattoos are a personal and unique way to remember your loved one’s go-to phrases, nicknames that they used to call you, and the love you felt when you were reading their letter,” Wildflowers says. “They are tiny, usually sweet and short, but act as a powerful reminder that you are loved and valued.”

Botanic Tattoos
Similar to floral tattoos, botanic-inspired ink is on the rise in 2025. “These designs are highly popular and visually appealing,” Karabudak says. “Capturing the true colors and textures of plants is something I absolutely love working on.”
John, the manager of West 4 Tattoo in New York City, is also a fan of botanic tattoos for 2025. Currently, he’s witnessing an increase in “playful and vibrant fruit-themed designs, often incorporating bold colors and whimsical elements.”
The best part about getting a botanic tattoo? They never go out of style. “Timeless and classic, botanical tattoos remain outside of fleeting trends,” says Lena Fedchenko, an NYC-based tattoo artist specializing in floral tattoos. “They are universal and beautiful symbols that suit any occasion.”

Ornamental Filigree
“Ornamental pattern work and filigree are delicate and classically beautiful ways to adorn the body,” Karabudak says, and Fedchenko agrees.
“With the right artist, these delicate line-based designs can stay crisp and beautiful for years, making them a favorite for 2025,”Fedchenko adds.

Collage Designs
With vision boarding top of mind in 2025, it makes sense that collage tattoos are also trending. “Combining two or more styles or artworks creates a cool and creative result,” says Ali Dundar, an New York City-based micro-realism, fine line, and pet portrait tattoo artist. “This style offers endless possibilities for unique and personalized tattoos.”
Not sure what to mash up for a cool collage tattoo? Don’t overthink it: Fedchenko says anything goes. “Combining meaningful objects into a cohesive tattoo collage is becoming a popular trend,” she explains. “These designs are visually intriguing and deeply personal.”

Color Revival
Just as maximalism and dopamine dressing are taking over fashion and home decor, we’re experiencing a color revival in the tattoo world, too. “A resurgence of colorful tattoos with vibrant, artistic palettes,” John elaborates.

Fine Art Recreations
“Tattoos are one of the most accessible ways for a fine art appreciator to collect art—finding new and interesting takes on classic paintings is always something I find myself working on,” Karabudak shares.
“Translating classic art pieces onto the body is a fascinating process,” Ali Dundar adds. “It allows you to connect with the original artist’s emotions and brush strokes in a whole new way—truly captivating.”

Fine Line Tattoos
We might be witnessing bigger, bolder tattoos on our feeds, but minimalist, fine line tattoos will always have a place in our heart. “One of the most popular styles of the past five years, fine line tattoos are elegant, subtle, and relatively painless for the client, which makes them a favorite,” Ali Dundar says.

Geometric Realism
Geometric designs and realism portrayals are two wildly popular tattoo styles, and, as it turns out, they pair quite well together. “[Geometric realism] has been increasingly popular in the last three to four years,” Ali Dundar says. “When designed to match the body’s anatomy, it looks incredibly aesthetic and requires high-level craftsmanship.”
As far as what to include, Min, an NYC-based watercolor, fine line, and micro-realism tattoo artist, says dots, lines, and shapes are all fair game. “Geometric tattoos look modern, and they can contain several subjects,” he adds. “They can be connected or isolated by design. They can be extremely complicated or simplified, depending on how the artist interprets it.” Meanwhile, the addition of hyper-detailed realism makes for a high-contrast end result that’s impossible to overlook.

Lettering and Script
Lettering, font, and script tattoos remain a popular pick in 2025. They’re clean, simple, design-forward, and—okay—a bit obsessive in application. “Text is one part of design by itself,” Min says. “Some love modern-look typography, and some prefer natural-feel calligraphy or handwriting. Even though it is only words, there are so many things going on. Size, space, type, etc.”
The trick to obtaining a truly stunning lettering tattoo is to vet your artist. “Since text tattoos are relatively simple, people tend to think it's easy,” Min explains. “I would say it's the trickiest tattoo, since each text should be exactly the same in terms of thickness, direction, angle, and curve.”

Matching Tattoos
Why get a tattoo by yourself when you can bring a loved one along? “Matching tattoos are a fun way to treasure a fond memory with your friends and family,” Wildflowers says. “Any meaningful flowers, symbols, and objects work. I love matching tattoos with secretive meanings that only the people who are getting the tattoos know. It’s a cute way to reaffirm your friendship and love.”
Meanwhile, Fedchenko says what many might be thinking. “There’s always a bit of risk involved in getting paired tattoos,” she admits. “But what's life without emotions? Whether it’s with a partner, friend, or family member, these designs carry deep personal meaning.”

Pet Portraits
Nowadays, pets have taken a prominent place as core members of the family. As such, memorializing them in ink has become quite popular. “Pet portraits are my main style and one of my favorite types of tattoos to create,” Ali Dundar says. “Pet portraits have always been popular, and I believe they’ll continue to be. Our furry friends are our closest companions, and sometimes even our children. People love to honor their unconditional love by carrying a piece of them forever.” Karabudak agrees, adding, “Everyone wants to memorialize their furry friends.”
“While we dedicate only a part of our long lives to our pets, they give us their entire lives,” Fedchenko says. “This unwavering loyalty and love will always find a way to be expressed through tattoos.”
